Cookies for the Christmas tree

A cozy recipe to make together during the holidays. Shortbread cookies that not only taste delicious, but can also hang beautifully in the Christmas tree! Get all the supplies out of the cupboard, put on some Christmas music and light the candles. Enjoying the holidays together is the best thing there is, isn't it?
You will need this
200 grams of flour
75 grams of sugar
1 egg yolk
1 sachet vanilla sugar
125 gram butter
1 tablespoon cold water
Set of 2 gold heart shapes
Steel straw (or paper straw)
Baking tray with baking paper
rolling pin
Rope

STEP 1
Get the supplies ready and let the butter come to room temperature so it can be easily kneaded later.
STEP 2
Put the flour, sugar and vanilla sugar in a bowl. Add the diced butter and egg yolk. Mix until crumbly.

STEP 3
Then add a tablespoon of water (use Zusss' measuring spoon) and knead the dough with your hands into a firm ball. Is it still very dry? Then add a little extra water. Is it very sticky? Then add a little flour to the dough.
STEP 4
Wrap the dough in a piece of plastic wrap and put it in the refrigerator for half an hour. Meanwhile, heat the oven to 175 degrees.

STEP 5
Remove the dough from the refrigerator and then from the foil. Use flour for the surface and roll out the dough with a rolling pin. Press cookie cutters onto the dough and place on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Keep enough space between the cookies.
STEP 6
Bake the cookies for 15 minutes until golden brown. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and use the steel straw (or a paper straw) to press holes into the cookies. Do this immediately when the cookies come out of the oven and keep enough space from the edge so they won't break easily.

STEP 7
Let the cookies cool and thread a piece of string through the hole and done! This makes decorating the tree a lot of fun AND delicious.
TIP!
Do you like it more savory? Then you can also use the cookie cutters for puff pastry (with pesto and cheese). Extra festive on the table with our cocktail sticks!
